Brain Focused Health and Healing

Welcome. I'm so glad you found your way here.

At Salmon River Wellness, I help adults achieve the peace they seek. Maybe it is freedom from anxiety, depression, unfulfilling relationships, perfectionist tendencies, bad habits, poor memory, distractibility, a racing mind, a trauma history you can’t shake or simply wanting more for yourself.  A supportive and encouraging connection that guides you through the change process is a means to that end. Using neuroscience to inform our work together, I help clients shift from old neuro pathways that do not serve them to ones that bring joy, clarity, calm and stronger belief in self.

Neurofeedback is biofeedback for the brain. It trains the brain into more efficient functioning. When your brain functions better, you feel better and increase your capacity for change. Please see the “More” page for further details on how it works.

Neurotherapy is a powerful combination (talk therapy + neurofeedback) that capitalizes on the latest brain research in functional neurology, emotional healing, physical health and interpersonal relationships. Some of the most influential contributors are Dr. Bruce Perry (What Happened To You), Dr. Dan Siegel (Interpersonal Neurobiology, Mindsight, IntraConnected, etc.), Dr. Bessel van der Kolk (The Body Keeps The Score), Dr. Stephen Porges (Polyvagal Theory), and Dr. Peter Levine (In An Unspoken Voice). These discoveries have given us a new path to healing and more comprehensive way to help people feel, think and act better. Neurotherapy ties these together in one package for neuroscience based interventions that acknowledge the human brain's limitations and work with its strengths.

While my specialty is developmental trauma (adverse experiences in childhood, C-PTSD), I also treat anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, trauma, ADHD symptoms and peak performance. Many people toil in talk therapy either straining to put words to their problems, organize their thoughts, or feeling safe enough to speak up. Neurofeedback helps close the gap. It adds a richness and ease to the therapeutic process not achieved with other modalities. Clients describe the change as something profoundly different than strictly talk therapy because they experience a shift in their felt sense which manifests as an internal congruence of knowing themselves and being able to take action for their own benefit. Maybe this is standing up for themselves at work or taking actionable steps to improve their relationships or emotional state. My client’s say things like, “I didn’t know life could be like this. I feel totally different about myself,” “I respond to things now, not react,” “I feel free,” “I really like myself,” and “Those bad thoughts fade now. I don’t listen to them.”

More tools for change...
I also use Attachment Theory, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness and Somatic Practices to help clients achieve their desired results.

A little about me...
I received my Master's in Social Work in 2011 from Boise State University and my Master's in Educational Leadership from Virginia Tech in 1999. I started my private practice in 2016 and added neurofeedback in 2022. I have trained with Mike Cohen at Center for Brain and Boston NeuroDynamics.  I provide EEG neurofeedback that is symptom based.  My studies have focused on neuroscience and healing trauma, attachment, healthy relationships, sexuality, ENM, intimacy, parenting and race. I only work with adults, 18+. Like all interventions, I cannot guarantee results. Please see the "More" page for information about appointments and billing.

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”
