Dear Colleagues,
In the spring of 2021, I became desperate for a breakthrough in my own healing journey. I read The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk and began testing his recommendations, most notably neurofeedback. It was a game changer for me. Practitioners call it the “clean windshield” effect. I saw things in myself and others I’d never seen before. It was an awakening with my own brain. Then came the ability to do more for myself with less people pleasing. A genuine confidence grew. My felt sense shifted. My book knowledge on trauma and healing became integrated and knew it with all of me. I felt it in my bones.
Since then, I have been fervently working to bring neurofeedback to others. I’m closing in on my neurofeedback certification (BCIA) and have been getting great results with my clients. I cannot guarantee outcomes, but the change is real. I have found that NF speeds up processing and cements gains. About a year ago, a former client contacted me saying, “I’ve got to come back. I’m ready to try neurofeedback. I cannot stop dating men who beat me.” My client and I had done great work together a few years before. I asked her what she remembered. Nothing. The “I’m bad. It’s my fault” schema was fully intact. I was witnessing trauma neuroscience right in front of me. This client’s brain had not changed, the old neuropathways remained fully functional. Repetition compulsion was in full subconscious swing.
We began working together again. I saw her twice a week for nine months doing neurofeedback and talk therapy. The transformation was remarkable. Dr. Van der Kolk describes this phenomenon in his chapter on NF. Clients begin feeling different about themselves because a secure self emerges. Parts of them fade. Clients no longer believe their cheerleader, perfectionist or people pleasing parts. Shame organically disintegrates. As a result, clients report feeling profoundly different about themselves and in their bodies. The freeze response thaws and clients begin taking real action to improve their lives and relationships. They take ownership of their happiness.
Of course, I cannot guarantee results and results will vary. Trying this intervention is a risk. Maybe it’s worth it to your clients that have stalled out? Perhaps by partnering together (you for talk therapy & me for neurofeedback), more clients will receive the benefits. Please contact me with questions. I’m eager to make this intervention available to more people.
All the best,
